Hi! I'm Fran.

Perhaps you're not sure where to begin. Maybe you've tried learning before but struggled to keep going, or you worry that learning a language is harder than it looks.
The good news is that you don't have to do it alone.
At Step Up Japanese, I offer friendly, supportive online lessons that help adults build confidence in Japanese one step at a time. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to take your Japanese to the next level, my lessons are practical, interactive, and designed to help you enjoy the learning process.
My own Japanese journey began in 2007, when I first visited Japan and fell in love with its culture, people, and language. The only problem? I couldn't speak a word of Japanese.
Over the following decade, I worked towards fluency, passing the highest level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT N1) in 2013. Since 2015, I've been helping students achieve their own Japanese learning goals through fun, engaging lessons.
Today, all classes are online, so wherever you are in the world, you're welcome to join us.
